Suggestion:

I usually hear "horse trade" as a verb; "The Egyptian president is engaged in horse trading." As a noun, I would suspect that it would function like "trade." So, you would not "go through" a trade you would "negotiate" or "navigate" or "propose" or "maneuver" a trade.
